The Mascorada of Laste di Rocca Pietore is a historic Ladin Carnival tradition, carefully preserved and passed down from generation to generation. Every year, it is brought to life by the young people of the village, who keep this important cultural ritual alive.
Among the most iconic characters are the Matacinch and the Lachè, easily recognizable by their costumes covered in colorful handkerchiefs. The Matacinch wears an elaborate and eye-catching headdress, decorated with bright ribbons, feathers, and jewels. Alongside them are other key figures such as the capomascora, a refined and elegant gentleman, and the mascore de legn, hand-carved wooden masks representing the many facets of human character, from the beautiful to the grotesque.
The parade is often accompanied by the sound of the accordion, blending with the jingling of the cowbells carried by the Matacinch, creating a unique and engaging atmosphere.
The Mascorada takes place on February 14th.
