A moderately difficult route that offers spectacular views of the Dolomites, the main Alpine ridge and the Rieserferner Group.
The snowshoe hike starts from Montassilone (a hamlet of Gais) and follows a forest road up to the Montassilone Alpine hut. From there, the trail continues uphill towards the southeast along path no. 7, leading to the summit of Bel Colle.

How to get there
- By car: Montassilone can be reached directly.
- By public transport: bus 450 to Gais (Paese stop), then about 1 hour on foot to Montassilone.
Return details
- Classic route: from the summit of Bel Colle descend along path no. 7, retracing the ascent back to the Montassilone hut and then to the hamlet of Montassilone.
- Circular variant: from Bel Colle take path no. 7B, crossing the clearing of Hühnerspiel (a treeless hill with wide views), then connect to path no. 3 which leads back to Montassilone via Vila di Sopra (Oberwielenbach).
