The Valsorda XC Trail is designed for experienced riders: a perfect mix of flowing sections, enduro features and demanding climbs that require solid technique and good fitness. It’s a varied and entertaining route that crosses some of the most scenic landscapes of the Tognola area, between mountain huts, forests and panoramic passes.
Itinerary
The route starts at the top station of the Tognola Cable Car, at 2200 m, where a forest road descends towards Malga Tognola (1988 m). From here, an enduro section equipped with wooden bridges and boardwalks leads to the small Valsorda forest hut, nestled in the quiet of the woods.
From the hut, the trail changes rhythm: a steady climb leads to Malga Valsorda (1918 m), the gateway to the most challenging part of the itinerary. Following trail 390, riders tackle the steep ramp that climbs to Forcella Valsorda (2094 m), a technical section where pushing the bike is often necessary.
Once at the pass, two options open up:
1) Descent to Zortea – Trail 344
A fun and technical single track drops to Zortea (1030 m), from where you can return by taxi or climb back towards Lake Calaita along the main road.
2) Panoramic variant to Lake Calaita
Continue along trails 390 and 347, reaching Forcella Folga (2172 m) and then Malga Grugola (1850 m). From here, a long and enjoyable descent leads to Lake Calaita (1621 m), one of the most scenic natural balconies in the Primiero area. The return to San Martino di Castrozza follows the forest road back to the Tognola Cable Car departure point.
