An MTB itinerary that combines spectacular views, history, and unspoilt nature: the long climb from Lozzo di Cadore to the Pian dei Buoi plateau, the First World War fortifications of Col Vidal, the trails of the Memory Park, and the rewarding descent through Val da Rin down to Auronzo. A perfect route for well‑trained riders looking for a complete experience in the heart of the Dolomites.
The tour starts in Lozzo di Cadore (756 m), following the historic military road: 14 km and 24 hairpin bends that climb steadily up to 1,800 m on the Pian dei Buoi plateau, one of the most scenic viewpoints in the Cadore area.
From here, the route continues along a panoramic road leading to the forts of Col Vidal, surrounded by a breathtaking backdrop of iconic Dolomite peaks such as the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Antelao, and Marmarole. The itinerary then enters the Memory Park, where you follow the Great War trails up to the junction for the Ciareido and Baion mountain huts—excellent stops to enjoy local cuisine.
Turning right instead, you begin the long and satisfying descent into Val da Rin, a fun and scenic stretch that leads to Auronzo di Cadore. Skirting the lake, you reach the SS 51 Alemagna, which brings you comfortably back to Lozzo di Cadore.
