The itinerary follows much of the 16 km Medium Trail, but extends it with a unique section: the full crossing of the Monte Toc landslide, a wild environment still marked by the 1963 tragedy. After walking across the dam crest, you reach the top of the enormous landslide body, where an impressive panorama opens over the valley and the scars left by the disaster.
Crossing the landslide to Le Spesse
From the dam, the route continues along the path that cuts across the entire landslide. The terrain is uneven, rocky and evocative, with piled boulders, unstable slopes and viewpoints that vividly reveal the force of the event that devastated the valley. The trail leads to Le Spesse, the natural exit point from the landslide.
Arrival in Erto and ascent to the Troi dal Sciarbon
From Le Spesse, the route enters the historic centre of Erto, a village that has preserved its original structure, with stone houses, narrow alleys and an atmosphere suspended in time. After crossing the village, the trail climbs gradually towards the Troi dal Sciarbon, the ancient charcoal‑makers’ path that once connected Erto and Casso. This section is one of the most scenic of the entire itinerary: a natural balcony over the valley, surrounded by woodland, dry‑stone walls and panoramic viewpoints.
Arrival in Casso and return to the Middle Trail
Reaching Casso, the village overlooking the dam, the itinerary rejoins the route of the Middle Trail, completing a loop that blends nature, memory and landscape. From here, you can admire the entire Vajont area from above and fully grasp the historical and human significance of the places you have crossed.
