The San Candido – Lienz cycle path, also known as the Pustertal cycle path or the Drava cycle path, is one of the most popular routes, covering around 44 km. It’s a perfect journey for families and cycling enthusiasts, winding through pastures, verdant forests and charming mountain villages. The route begins in Innichen and, after passing through several villages, ends in Lienz in Austria.
It is a relaxing ride on asphalted roads, an easy cycle path that takes about 3 hours and is suitable for the whole family.
The cycle path starts at Magistrate’s Square in Innichen and follows a mostly flat route with gentle descents all the way to Lienz, the capital of East Tyrol. Along the way, you pass several intermediate villages: Versciaco, Prato Drava, Weitlanbrunn, Sillian, Tassenbach, Abfaltersbach, Mittewald a.d. Drau and Thal.
To enjoy the route with complete peace of mind, it is advisable to bring enough drinks and snacks, although there are several water fountains and rest areas along the way. In case of any bike issues, a free service point is available.
For the return journey, those who prefer not to cycle back can take the train, which has a dedicated carriage for bicycles.
If you don’t have your own bike, you can rent one in Innichen and return it near the Lienz train station for a small extra fee.
