Following the great success of the dinosaur exhibition held in Auronzo di Cadore in 2025, which attracted more than 7,000 visitors, the exhibition returns in 2026 with a new chapter dedicated to the evolution of life on Earth. The new exhibition, "Auronzo Tre Cime. From Dinosaurs to Mammoths, the Story Continues", takes visitors on a journey through the period between the extinction of the dinosaurs and the rise of the great mammals of the Ice Age.
Organized by the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore and curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco, the exhibition extends between Lake Santa Caterina and the Palazzo Corte Metto Museum, offering an immersive experience that explores millions of years of evolution, from the appearance of the first mammals to their dominance after the mass extinction that marked the end of the Mesozoic Era. Visitors will be able to admire life-size reconstructions of some of the most iconic animals of the Pleistocene, including woolly mammoths, saber-toothed cats, cave bears, bison, giant deer, and giant ground sloths.
Along the lakeside promenade, visitors will encounter around twenty full-scale models of the great mammals of the Ice Age. Inside the Palazzo Corte Metto Museum, the exhibition offers in-depth insights into mammalian evolution, the adaptations that ensured their success, and the relationship between humans and wildlife throughout history.
The exhibition also addresses highly relevant contemporary topics, including the effects of climate change on the evolution of species, the domestication of wolves and the origin of dogs, as well as the most recent extinctions caused by human activity, creating an engaging experience that combines scientific education with reflections on today's environmental challenges.
