Snow sculptures and ice figures in Val Gardena

Event date from: 27-12-2025 to: 24-01-2026

In the coldest months of the year, Selva Val Gardena and Ortisei turn into open-air museums, where snow and ice become artistic materials. In addition to traditional wooden carvings, the mountains of Val Gardena host unique events that celebrate winter through the creativity of local artists.

Snow Sculptures in Selva Val Gardena – 27–30 December 2025

The famous Snow Sculpture Competition returns to Selva Val Gardena, now in its 29th edition. From 27 to 30 December, sculptors and artists from the valley and beyond transform massive snow blocks into captivating works of art. Using only manual tools, patience and skill, they create surprising figures that seem to come alive among the snowy village streets.

The theme for the 2025 edition is “WINTER GAMES”, a tribute to the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A jury of experts will select the winners, while a special prize will be awarded by the public. The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 30 December 2025 at 4 p.m. on the municipal meadow.

Ice Figures in Ortisei – 19–24 January 2026

In January, the freezing temperatures turn the pedestrian area of Ortisei into a magical pathway lined with ice sculptures. Impressive and luminous, they fascinate thousands of visitors each year. From 19 to 24 January 2026, local artists and students of the Professional School for Artistic Craftsmanship of Val Gardena will carve 600 ice blocks (16×16×80 cm) using hammers, chisels, chainsaws and even gas torches.
The main theme will once again celebrate the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, promising spectacular settings.
