Rifugio Silvio Agostini

The Refuge S. Agostini is situated in the southern part of the Brenta Dolomites at 2410 m. in the upper Ambiez valley. Rebuilt in 1995 in a completely alpine style, it is the perfect accomodation for those who wish to attend summer rock climbing courses, with climbs through the most famous paths of the Brenta group (especially to the Ambiez peak) or pleasant panoramic excursions through the Via delle Bocchette. Good starting point to reach the safeguarded climbs "E. Castiglioni" and "L. Brentari". The most interesting climb is undoubtedly that on Cima Tosa(3.173m.), the highest peak of the group, which offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of most parts of Trentino. Nature lovers can observe the alpine flora and fauna, some falls and the Silva cave.
The refuge has been run by Family Cornella since 30 years, it stands out for its typical mountain atmosphere, is provided with 10 cosy bedrooms featuring wooden flooring and bunk-beds, two bathrooms and a hot shower on each floor. The bar and restaurant are mainly lined with spruce and larch wood - the majolica stove and the fireplace invite to relax and make new friends.
Open from 20. June to 20. September. However, in the winter period (off-season) a local with 8 beds is available. You cannot reach the refuge by car but on foot: a mule track (starting past S. Lorenzo in Banale at Baesa) for the first part and a path for the second lead you to the refuge in 3,30 hours walking. There is the option of a jeep taxi service up to the Al Cacciatore refuge, then continue on foot for 1,15 hours of walking.

How to get there:

• By car: You can reach San Lorenzo in Banale both from the north and from the south taking the Brennero Main Road 12 or the A22 motorway (the refuge lies about 39 km from the exit Trento Centro) - first follow the main road 45/bis, than the main road SS 237 Brescia-Tormini as distant as the Comano Spa. In Comano take the main road SS 421. If you take the Motorway Milan -Venice (exit Brescia Est) take the main road SS 237 Brescia-Tormini. From Riva del Garda take the main road SS 421 Riva-Ballino.
• By train: Reach Trento railway station and continue by bus in the direction of Sarche-Tione. From the Brescia railway station catch the bus to Tormini-Tione.
• By plane: The nearest airports are the "Catullo" Airport in Verona, the "Marco Polo" in Venice, Milano Linate and the new Bolzano Airport.
