Mansio Sebatum Archaeological Museum

In San Lorenzo di Sebato, you will find a place that offers a true journey through time: the Mansio Sebatum Archaeological Museum, the only museum in South Tyrol entirely dedicated to the Iron Age and the Roman era.

Discovering the ancient settlement of Sebatum

Spread across three exhibition floors, the museum tells the story of the ancient settlement of Sebatum, as San Lorenzo di Sebato was called in Roman times. The numerous archaeological finds unearthed in the area and the results of historical research offer a vivid and fascinating picture of everyday life in this important Roman road station, a meeting point of peoples, cultures and trade.

During the visit you will retrace the centuries when the Noric Saevates people held sway, the protagonists of the Iron Age in the region, until the arrival of the Romans, who transformed the lively settlement into a mansio, that is, a resting station along the great roads of the Empire.

A modern and interactive museum

The rooms of the Mansio Sebatum Museum offer an engaging experience thanks to multimedia and interactive stations that help visitors understand how people lived over 2000 years ago. Every artifact tells a story: from everyday objects to evidence of trade, to the architectural structures that outline the evolution of the territory over time.

A journey through the history of South Tyrol

Visiting the Mansio Sebatum Museum means immersing yourself in the ancient history of the Pustertal Valley, on a route that combines culture, archaeology and curiosity. An ideal experience for families, history enthusiasts and anyone who wants to discover the most ancient roots of South Tyrol.
