A 9‑kilometre itinerary that crosses the symbolic places of the Vajont tragedy, blending history, nature, and the still-visible traces left on the landscape.
The route begins on the eastern side of Ponte Campelli, in the locality of Vajont, where the trail descends gently toward the Piave River. After crossing the watercourse, you reach Dogna, a small hamlet that marks the entrance to the most evocative section of the hike.
From here, the path continues into the Vajont gorge, winding between rocky walls and historical structures until it reaches the ENEL facilities and tunnels, located directly opposite the dam. This is one of the most iconic points of the itinerary: the landscape narrows, memory becomes tangible, and the environment still bears the marks of the 1963 disaster.
Beyond the ENEL structures, the trail crosses the gorge via the distinctive “pipe‑bridge”, a suspended passage that leads back toward the Piave valley. The route then descends to the abandoned marl quarry in the Pascoli area, a site that recalls the region’s former extraction activities.
The final stretch leads to Codissago, from where the path continues easily to the sports facilities of Longarone, the official endpoint of the itinerary. Throughout the hike, panoramic viewpoints, historical elements, and natural passages alternate, making this walk accessible yet rich in meaning.
