This itinerary guides visitors on a slow and evocative journey at the foot of the Monti del Sole, one of the wildest areas of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. Starting from Cesiomaggiore, the route crosses a landscape of quiet hamlets, bright meadows and ancient connecting roads, leading to two symbolic landmarks of the area: Villa Sandi‑Zasso and the Certosa di Vedana.
Since the seventeenth century, the area between Cesiomaggiore, Maràs and Sospirolo attracted diplomats, industrialists and noble families who chose these slopes for their rugged and panoramic beauty. Among the most representative residences stands Villa Sandi‑Zasso, an elegant estate surrounded by greenery in Maràs di Sospirolo. The villa overlooks the valley with its harmonious architecture, recalling the era when the Valbelluna was a favourite destination for cultured retreats and creative stays.
Today, the area still preserves that suspended atmosphere: small rural clusters, ancient connecting paths and open views of the Dolomiti Bellunesi accompany the walk.
Continuing towards the Cordevole valley, you reach one of the most fascinating spiritual sites in the Belluno area: the Certosa di Vedana, founded before 1150 as a shelter for travellers and pilgrims heading towards the Canale d’Agordo.
It later became a true Carthusian monastery, a secluded and peaceful complex surrounded by woods and meadows that enhance its sense of tranquillity. Even today, the site retains an aura of sacredness and isolation, perfect for those seeking a cultural experience immersed in nature.
The itinerary unfolds along the edge of one of the wildest areas of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park: the Monti del Sole, renowned for their pristine nature, steep rock faces and rich biodiversity.
Although not a demanding hike, the walk offers panoramic views over the Valbelluna, the Schiara massif and the side valleys leading towards the Valle del Mis.
