This long and evocative hike is perfect for mountain lovers, photography enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys wide, open panoramas. The best seasons to experience it are spring and autumn, when clear air and vibrant colours make the route even more rewarding.
Route
The trail starts in the centre of Comano Paese (619 m). From the church, follow the road on the left and pass the hotel La Panoramica, where you can request a permit to drive up to the meadows below Rifugio Don Zio. Continue along the Strada Panoramica, initially paved, which climbs with several switchbacks to a parking area where access is restricted to authorised vehicles.
From here, continue on foot along the dirt road that crosses the forest and climbs the slopes to Paghera – Madonnina (1300 m). The path becomes steeper and cobbled, leading to the area of Le Quadre, where it meets trail no. 408 coming from Malga Valbona. The landscape opens into a wide meadow with spectacular views over the valley and the surrounding villages.
Crossing the meadows, you reach Rifugio Don Zio Pisoni (1600 m), an ideal spot for a short break. From here, a 15‑minute ascent leads to the summit of Monte Casale (1632 m), where a panoramic stele points out the main visible peaks. A little further on stands a large iron cross overlooking the dramatic cliffs that drop toward the Sarca Valley.
From the summit, the panorama is extraordinary: the Pasubio and the Little Dolomites, Monte Baldo, the Dolomites of Fiemme and Fassa, Monte Bondone, Presanella, Ortles, the Ledro Alps, the Adamello Group, the Brenta Dolomites and the Paganella. Below, you can spot the plateau of Ranzo and Margone, the Valle dei Laghi, Lake Molveno, the rocky expanse of the Marocche di Dro, the Cavedine Valley with its lake, and finally the deep blue of Lake Garda.
The return follows the same route as the ascent.
