The route starts from Upper Valdaora, where a paved road uphill leads to the junction with trail no. 20B. This initial section winds through coniferous forests, offering shade and tranquility, until reaching the Brunstalm hut (1,891 m). A stop here is recommended: the hut is renowned for traditional South Tyrolean dishes and for its spectacular view of Plan de Corones and the Puster Valley.
From Brunstalm, trail no. 20 becomes steeper and more demanding. The path crosses alpine meadows dotted with mountain flowers, home to marmots and grazing cows, and continues over rocky sections that require sure footing. After about 5 hours of walking and more than 1,100 meters of elevation gain, the summit of the Kühwiesenkopf (Monte Pra della Vacca, 2,142 m) is reached.
You can retrace trail no. 20 back to the Brunstalm, and from there take trail no. 20B down to Upper Valdaora.
Alternatively, some hikers choose circular variants, descending along other trails connected to the Puster Valley, though these require more time and orientation.
In summary: a demanding yet rewarding alpine hike, combining forests, huts, meadows, and breathtaking Dolomite panoramas. Perfect for those seeking an intense trek with a panoramic reward at the summit.
