The Marlengo Waalweg is one of the most charming irrigation channel trails in the Burgraviato and, at 12 km, the longest in South Tyrol. This almost flat path follows the ancient irrigation canal and crosses the landscapes of Tel (Parcines), Foresta (Lagundo), Marlengo, Cermes, and Lana.
Among chestnut woods and vast orchards, the walk offers spectacular views over the Merano basin. It is an ideal route for families with children and is especially beautiful in spring, when the apple trees are in bloom, or in autumn, with the warm colors of the harvest season.
The hike begins at the Tel hydroelectric power station, at the Adige diversion. From here, the trail winds along the slopes of Foresta, Marlengo, and Cermes, passing near the picturesque Castel Lebenberg, until it reaches Lana, where the Rio Valsura flows into the canal.
The route is simple and pleasant, always accompanied by the gentle murmur of water and views ranging from vineyards to surrounding mountains. The endpoint is at the bus station and San Vigilio cable car in Lana, from where you can easily return by bus.
