A very popular hiking route in Sappada is the one leading to the Olbe Lakes. They can be reached directly from the centre of Sappada along trail no. 135, with an overall elevation gain of about 1,000 metres. The scenery around the lakes is truly rewarding.
The hike starts in Borgata Bach, just behind the Chapel of St. Anthony, where trail 135 begins. The route climbs steadily and, at the junction for the Monte Ferro mountain hut, you should keep to the direction of the Olbe Lakes and Passo del Mulo.
After reaching the Gosse Restaurant, follow the path on the left, still marked 135, towards the Olbe Lakes and Passo del Mulo. The ascent continues until a small chapel comes into view — this is where you reach the area of the largest of the Olbe Lakes.
From here, continue towards the Monte Ferro mountain hut along trail no. 141. After passing the smaller lakes, descend towards the hut and then return to the starting point by following the signs for Sappada Bach.
