Juval Castle stands on a steep rocky spur above the village of Naturno, in a strategic position between the Val Venosta, Val Passiria and Val Senales. It lies at the entrance to the Val Senales, in a high and naturally defensive location. Behind the castle rise the Alpine peaks, many of them over 3,000 metres. Juval is also famous because it is owned by Reinhold Messner. One of its highlights is the “Room of a Thousand Delights”, named for the breathtaking views from its windows. Since 1983 the castle has been the residence of Reinhold Messner who, after restoring it, installed Tibetan art collections, a mask collection from the five continents, a mountain‑themed photo gallery and a botanical trail. The renowned mountaineer and writer opens the castle to the public during the warm season and for special exhibitions.
