Destinations: Watles ski area in Val Venosta

Skiing in Watles in the Ortler Skiarena

The ski area of Watles is located in Val Venosta, a valley with a wonderful scenery overlooked by the Ortles Group. It has easy and never overcrowded ski slopes suitable for families and a cross-country skiing center hosting international competitions. In this resort you have also the chance to practice a lot of sports: everything you need to transform your winter holiday into an unforgettable experience.

There are about 18 km ski slopes included in the Ortler Skiarena resort, with modern and efficient ski lifts. Snowboarders and skiers, expert or beginners, have fun without having to wait in boring ski lift lines and can rest basking in the sun on the terrace of the Plantapatsch refuge, from where they can enjoy a wonderful view of the Ortles Group, the Ötztal Alps and the Sesvenna Range. Families have at their disposal a ski kindergarten and the exciting playground Bubo.

Not far from Watles, in Slingia, there is a state of the art cross-country skiing center that hosted the Junior World Championship competitions in 2008 and the National Championships in 2009.

More than skiing

The winter season in Watles is the chance to practice a lot of alternative sports besides skiing. With an hour's walk or taking the chairlift you can reach the Plantapatsch refuge and the nearby 4 km long sledding slope. If you prefer ice skiing, in Sluderno and on the hill of Tarces you will find two romantic natural rinks. You can also enjoy winter walks through silent and uncontaminated meadows and forests, reaching refuges where you can admire nature far from the hectic pace of modern life: Malga Hofer, Malga Slingia, Knottberg Refuge...

During the ski season guided snowshoeing and ski mountaineering tours are regularly organized, so that you can practice these sports without endangering yourself.
