Monte Cavallo ski area in the Ortler Skiarena

Just a few steps from the historic center of Vipiteno, Monte Cavallo (Rosskopf) is one of South Tyrol’s most beloved destinations for those who want to experience the mountains in every season. Known as the “sun terrace of Vipiteno”, it offers a spectacular view of the Dolomites and the entire Alpine arc. The modern 10-seater cable car connects the town to the top station in just 12 minutes, providing easy access to the ski slopes and scenic hiking trails.

In winter, Monte Cavallo welcomes visitors with 20 km of sunny slopes for all skill levels and Italy’s longest snow-covered and illuminated toboggan run, stretching an impressive 10 km. Beyond skiing and sledding, the area is perfect for those seeking peace and nature: the nearly 6 km circular winter trail leading to Flaner Jöchl invites you to a relaxing walk through snowy forests and breathtaking landscapes. Along the way, cozy huts like the Furlhütte and Sterzingerhaus offer tasty breaks. The trail is family-friendly and takes about two hours to complete, with no need for snowshoes.

In summer, Monte Cavallo transforms into a charming hiking area, with sunny alpine meadows, panoramic routes, and the fun Panorama Mountain Coaster – a summer toboggan run loved by both kids and adults.
