Kaiserwarte

The Kaiserwarte walk is a simple and relaxing route that connects Brunico with Riscone, passing over the highest point of Monte Spalliera. It is suitable for everyone, ideal for those looking for a short hike surrounded by nature and local history.

On Monte Spalliera, in 1903, an 18‑meter observation tower was built, from which Emperor Franz Joseph I could monitor artillery movements around Brunico. The tower, called Kaiserwarte, soon became a popular panoramic viewpoint for the local population. Over time, however, weather damage weakened the structure, and in 1950 it was dismantled for safety reasons. Today, a stone column marks the spot where the tower once stood, keeping its memory alive.

The hike starts in Brunico (835 m), near the junction with Via Riscone. Following trails no. 20 and 21, the path climbs gently to the Kaiserwarte, the highest point of Monte Spalliera, and continues to Riscone (958 m). Along the way, hikers enjoy beautiful views of Brunico and the surrounding mountains.

A short, accessible, and charming walk that combines nature, Alpine panoramas, and local history in one experience.
