A circular hike that combines wide‑open views, traces of ancient history and the authentic atmosphere of the mountains above Velturno. From the Garner Wetterkreuz, the trail climbs through forests and alpine meadows to the summit of Monte del Pascolo (2436 m), then descends toward the scenic Rifugio Lago Rodella before returning via the Bruggerschupfe mountain hut.
Itinerary
Start: Garner Wetterkreuz (1410 m) From Velturno, a small road leads to the parking area at the Garner Wetterkreuz. The route begins on trail no. 10, which rises gently through woods and clearings to the upper edge of the vegetation.
After the Munschegg-Steig, the path joins trail no. 8 (around 2230 m). The final ascent to the summit of Monte del Pascolo follows an unmarked but clearly visible track, guided by the summit cross. The view stretches across the Alpe di Villandro, the Odle peaks and the Sassolungo group.
From the summit to Rifugio Lago Rodella
From the top, the descent heads east along trail no. 7 to Rifugio L. Rodella, a historic hut almost a century old, overlooking the small alpine lake of the same name. A peaceful spot for a well‑deserved break.
Return via the Bruggerschupfe
From the lake, continue on trails 8/10 towards the southwest, rejoining the outward route. Along the descent you reach the Bruggerschupfe (2000 m), ideal for a final stop before returning to the Garner Wetterkreuz.
Variant from Kühhof
Another option starts from Kühhof (1587 m), following trail no. 17 to Rifugio Chiusa (1920 m) and then trails 5/7 up to Monte del Pascolo. A shorter but equally panoramic alternative.
