Mountain territories should not only be seen as postcard landscapes or leisure destinations. They are places where major contemporary challenges — climate change, depopulation, and the transformation of work — are becoming increasingly urgent and visible.
With Future4Mountains, the Future4Cities ecosystem comes to Belluno in collaboration with Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti to spark a meaningful discussion about the future of mountain communities and their potential as innovative and competitive territories.
Through data analysis, expert insights, discussions, and collaborative workshops, the initiative aims to shape a new vision for mountain areas by combining environmental sustainability, opportunities for younger generations, and economic resilience.
The goal is not only to imagine the future, but to start building it today.
Belluno, the mountain region that is evolving
Palazzo Crepadona – Via Ripa 3, Belluno
May 6, 2026
From 5:00 PM
The first event of the series will focus on one of the key challenges for mountain regions: the ability to retain residents while attracting new people, families, and opportunities.
Special guest Mauro Varotto, geographer and leading voice on the “middle mountain” territories, will explore those areas that lie between mass-tourism destinations and industrialized valley regions.
Together with Paolo Bovio, Editorial Director of Future4Cities, and Stefano Daelli, co-founder of FROM, a special live episode of the podcast Città by Future4Cities will be recorded, focusing on three main themes:
- Living – How are the needs and aspirations of people living in mountain provinces changing?
- Attracting – Which economic models and services can make these territories more appealing to young families?
- Inspiring – Which stories and case studies from Italy and Europe can help us see the Dolomites from a new perspective?
The event will continue with interactive workshops and open discussions, giving participants the opportunity to transform reflections into concrete ideas and proposals for the Belluno area.
