The Gottschalk Trail is a hiking route that offers an authentic immersion into the nature of South Tyrol. The path is named after Robert von Gottschalk, the first president of the Tourist Board of Colle Isarco.
The hike begins in the idyllic hamlet of Steckholz, where the silence of the forest accompanies the first steps along a well-maintained woodland path. From here, you follow trail marker 19A, which winds through alpine meadows and scenic landscapes until reaching the picturesque alpine village of Vallming.
The route is simple and relaxing, ideal for those who wish to disconnect from daily routine and enjoy the mountains at a calm pace. Along the way, spectacular views of the Isarco Valley and surrounding peaks open up, making every step an opportunity to admire the beauty of the landscape.
At the destination, the Vallming Alm welcomes hikers with traditional dishes and a warm atmosphere: an invitation to pause, savor local cuisine, and experience the authenticity of South Tyrolean alpine farms. Those who wish can continue on to Ladurns, extending the hike, or return along the same path.
The trail is easily accessible by public transport thanks to bus line 313, which connects Brenner, Pflersch, Colle Isarco, and Vipiteno. By car, you can conveniently reach Colle Isarco from Vipiteno or Brenner, with parking available at the railway station.
