Destinations: Alta Badia ski area

Skiing in Alta Badia in the Dolomiti Superski

Alta Badia is one of the most renowned destinations in the Dolomites, thanks to its perfectly prepared slopes, modern ski lifts, and the wide range of accommodation, restaurants, and mountain huts. Each year, the area attracts thousands of enthusiasts of skiing, snowboarding, and winter sports, with peak attendance during the winter season.

Located in the heart of Dolomiti Superski, the largest ski carousel in Italy, Alta Badia is part of a ski area that includes 1,200 km of slopes across 12 ski zones, all accessible with a single ski pass. The ski area extends between 1,300 and 2,700 meters in altitude, offering spectacular panoramas and wide, sunny slopes, ideal for both intermediate and expert skiers.

With 130 km of slopes served by 54 ski lifts, including cable cars, chairlifts, surface lifts, and gondolas, Alta Badia guarantees a dynamic and complete vacation for all mountain lovers. Among the most famous slopes is the Gran Risa, internationally known as the venue for Alpine Ski World Cup races, attracting champions and enthusiasts from all over the world.

Sellaronda: The Four Passes Circuit

One of the highlights of the area is the Sellaronda, a circular ski route that allows skiers to tour the Sella massif, connecting the valleys of Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba, and Val di Fassa. The itinerary, approximately 40 km long, can be skied clockwise or counterclockwise, offering breathtaking views of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is directly accessible from Corvara, one of the main centers of Alta Badia, and is ideal for intermediate and expert skiers.

Giro della Grande Guerra

Alta Badia is also one of the starting points of the Giro della Grande Guerra, a challenging ski route suitable for expert skiers. The tour runs for about 80 km around the Col di Lana, a symbol of the First World War. Completing the entire route in one day requires approximately six to eight hours, so an early morning start is recommended. Alternatively, the route can be split over two days, allowing skiers to explore the different ski areas at a more relaxed pace.

Other Winter Activities

In addition to alpine skiing, Alta Badia offers numerous winter activities:

  • Cross-country skiing: trails prepared for all levels, such as the San Cassiano center.
  • Snowshoeing: routes immersed in nature to explore the mountains with snowshoes.
  • Tobogganing: slopes dedicated to family fun, for example at La Crusc.
  • Snowmobile excursions: to discover hidden corners of the valley with expert guides.

Gastronomy and Ladin Tradition

Alta Badia is also a center of gastronomic excellence. Ladin cuisine, with its traditional dishes, takes center stage in the numerous mountain huts and restaurants in the valley. Unique experiences such as "ski food" allow visitors to enjoy gourmet dishes directly on the slopes, combining sports and the typical flavors of local tradition.
