In San Lorenzo di Sebato, there is a place where visitors can embark on a true journey through time: the Mansio Sebatum Archaeological Museum, the only museum in South Tyrol entirely dedicated to the Iron Age and the Roman period.
Discover the ancient settlement of Sebatum
Spread over three exhibition floors, the museum tells the story of the ancient settlement of Sebatum, as San Lorenzo di Sebato was known in Roman times. Numerous archaeological finds from the area, along with research results, offer a vivid and fascinating picture of daily life in this important Roman roadside station, a crossroads of peoples, cultures, and trade.
The visit retraces the centuries dominated by the Norican Saevates, the Iron Age people of the region, up to the arrival of the Romans, who transformed the lively settlement into a mansio — a rest station along the great roads of the Empire.
A modern and interactive museum
The Mansio Sebatum Museum offers an engaging experience with multimedia and interactive stations that help visitors understand how people lived more than 2,000 years ago. Each artifact tells its own story — from everyday objects to trade evidence and architectural remains that trace the evolution of the area over time.
