Skiing in Val d'Ultimo in Schwemmalm in Ortler Skiarena

Not far from Merano lies Val d'Ultimo, a typical Tyrolean valley surrounded by the peaks of the Ortles. In winter its snowy and silent landscapes fascinate tourists, who come here attracted also by the ski area Schwemmalm, perfect for families and for all those who want to train and have fun away from the crowds. Ski runs of every level, facilities for children, alternative activities and sports for non-skiers: thanks to all these strong points, the ski area Schwemmalm is a favourite destination for winter holidays.

Efficient ski lifts take you quickly to an altitude of 2600 meters, from where you can admire the peaks of Ortles, Brenta and Adamello. The trails running down towards the valley are well groomed and never overcrowded. One of these, the Asmol, with its 5 km is one of the longest in South Tyrol. You can easily reach Schwemmalm from Merano with the shuttle bus, and as for accommodation facilities, the ski area offers cosy refuges with an excellent price/quality ratio.

The ski center is especially designed for families, and children can ski with their parents or with professional instructors on the easiest trails, play on the ski kindergarten "Tana dell'Orso" (Bear Den), with babysitting service for children from 3 to 8 years old, and learn how to ski in the Albllift amusement park in S. Nicolò. Moreover, children get special discounts on many services.

Cross-country skiers have at their disposal a 25 km long medium difficulty trail winding through the forests and meadows of the valley.

More than skiing

In the Albllift amusement park children and adults can go sledding or snow tubing on one of the longest trails in the Alps, and a convenient moving sidewalk will take you again to the top, for more exciting descents. Near the trail there is also a ski hire shop. Near the Schwemmalm ski area there is a floodlit sledding slope with a sled hire shop. Other sports you can practice are trekking, snowshoeing, and ice skating and curling in the ice rink of Pracupola.
