Also in the heart of the Dolomites, all the lovers of water have many occasions for having a dive or practise their favourite sports.
In the Garden of South Tyrol, where swimming pools and lakes are scattered all over the territory, the charm of water reaches its climax in a unique landscape.
The most fascinating place for all those who practice water sports, is, with no doubts the Lake of Caldaro.
In this lake, which is the widest in Alto Adige, the swimming and surf season starts early, in May and goes on till mid October.
Its waters, only 3 metres deep, reach in fact a temperature of about 17-19 degrees in May and then warms till 26-28 degrees in summer.
Moreover, the lake of Caldaro is protected by a mountain chain both eastwards and westwards, whilst in the north there are the hills where Oltreadige vineyards are growth.
The southern shores are, on the contrary, free and welcome the sun at any hour of the day.
Along its shores, in San Giuseppe al Lago, there are three lidos: the Lido, the Seegarten and the Gretl am See.
To the lake it is possible to attend windsurf courses given by the three-times world champion Klaus Maran, or practise canoeing, sailing, or simply fishing.
The lake, in fact, gives hospitality to many fish species and, for that reason, fishing is much practised, both by Caldaro inhabitants and by tourists who fish pike, carp and eel. For the daily entry and the fishing licence it is necessary to contact the "Associazione Turistica Caldaro" (tourist association).
But if you are looking for a very suggestive scenery, your destination is certainly the Lakes of Monticolo, near Appiano. They are two beautiful blue sheets of water, close each other, surrounded by a green wood of conifers.
Contrary to the Lake of Caldaro, those two lakes can be reaches from the wood too. Moreover, at the lido, there are a warmed swimming pool and another one for the youngest guests. In short, this is a true oasis of peace and tranquillity where nature reigns.
Who wish to enjoy the comforts of holidays to the end can exploit the swimming pools along the lidos in many localities of the area.
The Lido of Termeno, is one of the many examples of all that. You can in fact enjoy with the water games in the outdoor swimming pool equipped with whirlpool, swimming pool for the beginners, divingboard, play ground or simply relax and enjoy the peace of nature.
Other swimming pools are in Monticolo, Caldaro, Andriano, Terlano, Salorno, Egna, Ora and Laives, while in Bolzano there is a big indoor swimming pool too.
