Merano Museums

THE CIVIC MUSEUM

(Admission ticket; open all year; closed on Mondays)
The Civic Museum was founded at the beginning of the 20th century. The visitors can admire important finds, traditional costumes and pictures by local painters.

THE WOMAN'S MUSEUM

(Admission ticket, visit on request in January and February; closed on Sundays and public holidays)
On view: the ancient clothes of the ladies who used to stroll along the arcades in town centre. This museum is particularly interesting because it illustrates the development of the woman's role through the ages.

THE MUSEUM OF LOCAL FAUNA

(The museum is closed from the 15th October to the 31st March; closed on Fridays and Saturdays; guided tours on request)
The museum was mounted carefully by a local taxidermist at the beginning of the 1970s and includes over 300 species of birds and several species of mammals. The installation is unique of its kind: nowadays it could not be mounted any more because of the provisions in force concerning bird protection and the altered environment in the valley.
