The chamois return on the Pale di San Martino

Chamois return on the Pale di San Martino, enlisted by UNESCO as World Heritage Site on July 26 2009. In April 2010 some chamois were freed in the nature reserve of Parco Naturale Paneveggio Pale di San Martino to increase the population of these wonderful animals in Trentino.

The Chamois were captured by rangers of the Corpo Forestale dello Stato of the provinces of Belluno and Trento on the Marmarole Group in Centro Cadore, where there is a colony originally coming from Switzerland.

The project was developed after an epidemic of sarcoptic mange drastically reduced their numbers and consists in the capture of 20 chamois, ten in Spring 2010 and ten in 2011, taken from the Marmarole Group and reintroduced on the Pale di San Martino.
