Natural Park Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino

This park covers the Trento side of this huge and famous dolomitic group, which has many peaks over 3000 m and a few glaciers. It also includes the vast and impressive Paneveggio forest. The most convenient starting points are Primiero, San Martino di Castrozza, and, in the North, the villages in the upper Fiemme valley. From San Martino a combination chairlift and cableway brings the visitor up on the edges of the vast Pala plateau, a rocky extense at 2500 m, from where many huts can be reached easily, as well as the interesting Fradusta glacier and its glacial lakes.
Among the deep valleys which enter the group we shall name the Canali, a very favourite spot, dominated by the ruins of an ancient castle which belonged to the lords of Primiero.

Recently, on the Tognla Alp, the "panoramic balcony of the Dolomites" was inaugurated. A project started with the aim to promote the knowledge and the value of this territory, UNESCO Heritage. The balcony looks like a terrace, created with wooden panels, used as informational and educational point. From trhe new terrace you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Dolomites Friuliane, on the Pale di San Martino, Marmolada, on part of the Rosengarten and Lagorai.
