11 July 2012 - The primary school of Longomoso and the secondary school of Termeno are the winners of the competitions Le piante magiche (Magic Plants) and Fossili viventi (Living Fossils), sponsored by the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle.
In the autumn of 2011, for the third time, the Gardens of Sissi organized guided tours to introduce younger students to the wonderful world of plants. This year the main themes were Magic Plants and Living Fossils, and in about two months over 140 classes coming from South Tyrol visited the Gardens of Sissi.
At the end of the guided tours the students took part to the riddle competitions dedicated to the two main themes. The first prize for the theme Magic Plants was won by the classes 3A and 3B of the primary school of Longomoso, who guessed closest to the number of groups of sporangia on a fern leaf, whereas the first prize for the theme Living Fossils was won by the class 1B of the secondary school of Termeno, who guessed closest to the age of a ginkgo tree.
The winners received a ginkgo, planted personally by the gardeners of Trauttmansdorff Castle in the yards of the schools, and each student got a free entry coupon for them and their families.
For the 2012 autumn season there will be a new edition with guided tours focusing on the world of roots and bulbs.
