October 15, 2012 - The wonderful phenomenon of fall foliage surprised everyone with its early arrival at the Gardens of Sissi at Trauttmansdorff Castle, now wearing the intense autumn colors, especially in the Japanese Garden and in the section called Forests of the World.
There are many other typical Autumn phenomena you can admire in the Gardens of Sissi: the terraces with full grown rice (on the north side of the castle), the white and pink camellias in the palm grove, the golden-brown hues of Miscanthus and Eupatorium cannabium in the water lily pond, the full bloom of 150 different species of sage and the ripening of seasonal fruits such as chestnuts, figs, pomegranates and olives.
Fall foliage is celebrated with a number of interesting events:
- on Saturday, October 20, meeting with Dr. Siegfried de Rachelwiltz on the importance of turnips and potatoes in nutrition history and culture of South Tyrol
- the International Harvest End Festival on Sunday, October 28, with music, tasting events and an entertainment program for children
- special late Autumn discounts on entry tickets: from November 3 to 15, 6 € for adults and free entry for children under 18 years of age.
