Itinerary description: we go eastwards by car till Chienes/Kiens. Here we turn left going northwards to reach, after 2 km, a beautiful tableland.
Following the "Sonnenstrasse" (sun road, so-called for its exposition to the sunlight) towards Terento/Terenten we arrive at Hofern, an outlying village within Chienes/Kiens municipality. Just after the "Laerchenhof" high-mountain Hotel (1107 mt.) we turn in Katzental direction and then we proceed on a narrow way at the side of a couple of isolated huts.
At the end of this way there is the Gelanke parking, our 1591-mt. height starting-point where we leave the car. From here we can already sight the top's cross of the Cime di Pozzo/Putzenhöhe (2,5 km as the crow flies). Covering footpath number 65 we go up on a forest path and if we are lucky we can sight some of the local fauna. The squirrels jump from tree to tree, the bucks eat fresh grass and from a safety-distance the marmot whistles to warn about the imminent danger. After an hour we reach the "Moarhofalm" Hut (1833 mt.) provided with the wonderful gastronomic products of Alto Adige/Südtirol. Crossing both inferior and superior Malga Rio Verde/Grünbachalm we arrive at footpath number 65, which goes uphill on the slopes until the marvellous Rio Verde Lake/Grünbachsee (Lake Rio Verde) (2258 mt.; 2 hours far from the parking).
Later we go up on the slope towards the western ridge of the Cime di Pozzo/Putzenhöhe and, across a path signalled by white/red points, we arrive right at the top with the big cross (2348 mt.; 30 minutes far from the lake). The descent follows exactly the same way covered for the ascent.
