First stage: Before the Passo Tonale, arriving from Vermiglio, turn left and continue along the dirt road which leads to Presena river-bed (about 3 km). Few metres before the area of the Vecchio Cantiere, there is the station of the old chairlift, no longer in use. Enter the mule track behind it (path n. 281), made during the First World War. After a first marsh stretch, the road climbs up along a bare and stony slope, till the little lakes of Passo Paradiso. Here you can see old positions and the recently-built monument, made by the last researcher of Vermiglio. Then continue along the path n. 209 to Rifugio Capanna Presena, keeping the two lakes on your west.
Second stage: From Rifugio Capanna Presena go uphill to Passo Maroccaro along the right side of the glacier. Now descend along the Val di Genova slope, along the path n. 21, to Pozza delle Marocche, from wher you will continue along the path n. 209 to Rifugio Mandrone (2 hours). From Rifugio Mandrone continue towards Val di Genova along the path n. 212 to Rifugio Bedole (about 2 hours - downhill difference in height 808 m.) from where the passable road to Carisolo starts.
