Route: From Villabassa to Longarone

From Val Pusteria to Valle del Piave: the High Route n.3 winds in parallel to the two previous ones, through well-known groups: the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Mount Cristallo and Mount Pelmo.
The journey, called the "via dei camosci" (the "chamois route"), starts at Villabassa (near Dobbiaco), but you can enter it also from Misurina ove, it is possible to overnight along the homonymous lake and below the overhanging walls of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
From this enchanting Dolomites village, if you desire a not tiring but at the sam etime rich in sceneries journey, you can climb to Monte Piana, theatre of hard fights between Italians and Austrians, during the First World War (From Misurina to Carbonin it takes three hours walks on a dirt road). The arrival is in Longarone, which is sadly famous for the tragedy of the Vajont dam.
Misurina - Passo Tre Croci - Rifugio Vandelli
Five hours walk.
Rifugio Vandelli is in the enchanting natural amphitheatre of the massif Sorapiss massif. From Passo Tre Croci you can reach the ferratas which leads to Mount Cristallo through the ruins of the First World War positions.
Rifugio Vandelli - Rifugio Tondi - Zuèl - San Vito di Cadore
Seven hours walk.
From Monte Ciasadiò the excursionist can enjoy a wonderful scenery which winds from Valle del Boite to Antelao, from Pelmo to Croda da Lago till the Tofane.
Remember that the High Route avoid Cortina d'Ampezzo that can be seen from above, and that between Zuèl and San Vito is is better to get one of the frequent busses rather than walk along the busy highroad.
An alternative itinerary goes round the Sorapis westward, passing through Bivacco Slataper andsss Rifugio San Marco.
San Vito di Cadore - Rifugio Venezia
Four - five hours walk.
From the Rifugio it is possible to climb to the overhanging Pelmo, also know as the "Throne of God", for its characteristic shape. The climb is quite binding and requires experience and training.
Rifugio Venezia - Passo Cibiana - Rifugio Remauro
Seven hours walk.
Along this stretch you can admire the High Valle del Piave, the Valle del Boite, the Val di Zoldo and the Austrian Alps. Interesting are also the Austrian positions, which still lies in a good condition since they had never been reached by the fights.
Rifugio Remauro - Rifugio Casera Bosconero - Longarone
Five - six hours walk.
The first part of this stretch winds along the watershed ridge. You have to cross sree, sometimes equipped with metal ropes.
The path can be divided into three stages if you desire to go till Forcella and Bivacco Tovanella.
