Bolzano Danza Tanz Bozen
In Witches gestures, the performance Ecran Somnambule (2012) by Latifa Laâbissi and Silent (2017), a video installation by Renate Lorenz and Pauline Boudry, merge.
Laâbissi's choreographic part has historical roots: Mary Wigman's witch dance (1927), which is extended here to 32 minutes. In slow motion and with great patience, the choreographer takes apart the disturbing dance of this female figure, who has become an icon of German expressive dance. The video Silent also deals head-on with a figure on the margins of society: the queer singer Aérea Negrot. On the basis of the experimental music piece 4'33 by the composer John Cage from 1952, in which the musicians are instructed not to play for the indicated period, Lorenz and Boudry flirt with the singer's music video. Lorenz and Boudry use silence as an intense experience, out of the conviction that being forced to silence, having no voice, is an expressive act of performative resistance.
