Legend of the Agordo lake

A legend tells that the basin on which Agordo rises was once full of water. Two parents watched helplessly as Agordo, their son, slipped into the lake, and thus summoned Saint Martin, who unsheathed his sword and hit the rocks with all his strength. A breach was created from where the water started flowing away towards the valley, emptying the lake, and at the bottom of the basin laid the child, unhurt.

This legend has some truth in it, since geological researches proved that between 4000 and 3800 b. C. a lake actually existed and occupied the basin for about 6 or 7 centuries.
