Vigo di Fassa: skiing in November, climbs on the Catinaccio in summer
From here you can admire the whole valley and the wonderful Dolomites from Cima Undici to the Marmolada. In Vigo di Fassa you are surrounded by nature and the ski season starts already at the end of November. You can hike and climb on the Catinaccio and learn something about the Ladin culture.
The ski season starts early on the Ciampedie ski resort, at the end of November thanks to a state of the art snowmaking system. The ski resort is a beautiful sunny plain you can easily reach with the lift facilities from the town center. The exciting slopes like the ones dedicated to the skiers Gustav Thöni and Alberto Tomba and a well equipped playground, the Kinderpark Ciampedei, make it a perfect ski resort for families. From Vigo you can also reach the ski area of the Costalunga-Carezza Pass, connecting Vigo with Nova Levante in South Tyrol.
Located on a wide plain at the center of the valley, the village is a starting point for hikes and climbs on the Catinaccio Group or for challenging mountain bike tours on the Ciampedie. Near the village there are easy paths like the one taking to the ancient 13 century church of S. Giuliana.
Like other resorts of the valley, in Vigo too you can feel the influence of the Ladin culture, and it couldn’t be any different: here you find the Museo Ladino di Fassa, with ethnographic collections of the Istitut Cultural Ladin. In 1921 a fire destroyed the whole village, but you can still see the remains of an ancient local culture: Vigo was in fact for its position the ancient administrative and religious center of the valley where, during the Lombards rule, the Fassa parish and the manor farm were built.
