to the top of the Sella group: the piz boè

Catch the cableway that leaves from Passo Pordoi and reaches an altitude of 2950 metres. The view is wonderful here: you see the Val di Fassa, the Sassolungo, the Catinaccio, the Brenta Dolomites. Southwards, you can admire the solemn Marmolada, and Mt.Civetta, Pelmo, Antelao and Sorapiss in the distance.Finally, looking eastwards you sight the Sella tableland, surmounted by a round-shaped mount, our destination, i.e. the Piz Boè.

Leave the cableway (Refuge Maria at Sasso Pordoi) and make your way downhill eastwards. In 15 minutes you reach the Refuge Forcella Pordoi (at an altitude of 2848 metres). Follow this flat path that leads to the foot of the Piz Boè. The ascent is not hard, you meet just few easy passages on the rocks.The highest peaks of the Dolomites loom on the horizon and we can admire them from the terrace of the refuge Capanna Fassa.

This hike is really nice and quite easy.We recommend this it when the weather is fine, so that you can enjoy a 360° view on the peaks that sorround the Sella group. Wear suitable clothes (raincoat or jacket - gloves - hat - etc.) as in the mountains (especially in summer) you could be caught in a storm. At an altitude of 3000 metres, for example, temperature can fall suddenly making things uncomfortable for untrained hikers.
