Description
The Contrin Refuge lies at 2016 m above sea level, at the foot of the South face of the Marmolada: this is an ideal destination for hikes at different levels, admiring the most beautiful landscapes of the Eastern Dolomites.
The Contrin Refuge offers all comforts, as well as an excellent restaurant.
Its history begins on 28th July 1897, as the “ContrinHaus” was opened by the Alpenverein of Nurenberg. The refuge was destroyed by the Italian alpine troops on 6th September 1915, and it was rebuilt and reopened on 15th July 1923. A new building and a beautiful chapel were added in 1929.
Nowadays the Contrin Refuge is a wonderful building in one of the most imposing and unpolluted mountain spots in the world. In summer it is visited by thousands of hikers, who reach it from Alba di Canazei.
