A special place that will surprise you
In Trentino, on the Pinč Plateau, time seems to stand still. This is the pleasant sensation I got when I arrived at Romantik Hotel Posta of Montagnaga, small resort 3 km away from Baselga di Pinč. Peace, quiet and a lot of green. The perfect destination for a relaxing holiday, to free your mind from the worries of everyday life. I was welcomed with friendliness and charm by family Leonardelli, owners of this four stars hotel included in the group Dolomiti Walking Hotels of Trentino, promoting among guests the love for mountains and the passion for trekking.
The staff gently led me to my room, a suite on the third floor called “On the Seventh Heaven”. Four-poster bed, furnishings perfectly matched in color and details, basket of fresh fruits, living corner, spacious bathroom with whirlpool tub and bright windows from where you can admire the lush mountain scenery.
Romantik Hotel Posta was originally a cottage dating back to 1899, completely renovated with the addition of a brand new wellness center hiding a lot of surprises. Burning with curiosity, I immediately left luggage and clothes to flee to the “Sweet Idleness” spa wearing only my swimsuit and bathrobe. The Alpine sauna, the salt grotto, the Finnish sauna, the infrared bio sauna, the multi-sensory shower and the relax area are designed to enchant guests. Especially charming is the reproduction of a beach with sand, deckchairs, beach umbrella, sounds of waves in the background and walls full of pictures of tropical islands. Then there is the blue room with soft dark blue lighting, water beds, new age music and a wide choice of herb teas. After having enjoyed all such amenities I went for a dive in the saltwater swimming pool. The wellness center features also the “Carpe Diem” massage center where Silvia, beautician and final year student in motor science, offers personalized holistic massages. She interviews her patients and observes the way they move, then chooses the massage accordingly to their specific needs. She is a professional offering her time and competence, besides some diet tips, to the guests of the hotel. I went for a wonderful classic massage and at the end of the session my body and mind were completely relaxed.
In the evening I tried some classic recipes of the exquisite and natural cuisine of the hotel restaurant Ca’ dei Boci. The chef and sommelier Achille, owner of the hotel, recommended the surprise 6 courses menu, so I got the chance to try meat dishes, delicious local cheeses and fine wines from the hotel cellar, featuring more than 700 labels. At the end of the dinner the owners reveal a peculiarity of the village of Montagnaga: the ascent to the entry of the village is in fact a descent, and an optical illusion give the passers-by the feeling they are going uphill. The owners invite me to go check for myself, so I take my car and once I arrive at the end of the road, I leave the car out of gear and it starts moving backwards and uphill, a really unique experience!
Hospitality, relaxation and wellness, but also surprises and fun. All this in a holiday at Romantik Hotel Posta, that will see me coming back for the Christmas holidays, when the Pinč Plateau becomes a giant nativity scene made of countless small sculptures under the ancient arcades, on the windows of the barns, on the fountains and in the wonderful lights of the frozen lake of Baselga di Pinč.
