The Val di Fassa, situated in the north-eastern corner of Trentino, is surrounded with the most famous passes in the Dolomites: the Sella and Pordoi Passes in the north, the Fedaia and San Pellegrino in the east and the Costalunga Pass in the west – these passes connect the valley with South Tyrol, Veneto and Val di Fiemme.
The Val di Fassa stretches over about 20 km, including the following municipalities: Moena, Soraga, Vigo di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa, Mazzin, Campitello di Fassa and Canazei.
In summer the Val di Fassa offers many sport and untertainment possibilities. You can go in for several hikes, from easy low-level walks to more demanding trekking and discover some of the Dolomites’ most famous peaks, such as Roda di Vael, Catinaccio, the Duron Valley, Sassolungo and Pordoi. In summer several tracks await mountain bike lovers and among the events, we mention the Val di Fassa Bike, the international mountain bike race whose route runs entirely round the peaks and forests of Moena.
In winter the Val di Fassa is the real paradise for skiing, with more than 220 km of ski runs, 78 lifts, modern snowparks, over 50 km of cross-country trails, including the track of the popular Marcialonga and further exciting ski tours, for example the Four Passes Tour, the Skitour of the Emotions, the Great War Tour and Panorama Skitour.
Val di Fassa, mountains of legend, culture and traditions, the kingdom of legendary King Laurino. According to a popular legend, this king was the guardian of the Catinaccio, a beautiful rose garden (in German, indeed, Rosengarten means “rose garden”). But once he launched a curse, so that the Catinaccio became invisible both in the daytime and at night. However, he forgot sunset, for this reason even today a fire is lit every evening at dusk in his rose garden giving origin to the unforgettable phenomenon of light called Enrosadira.
