The Brenta Dolomites Group lies in the western part of Trentino and since over a century it has been the destination of mountain-climbers and hikers from all over the world, offering them a variety of ascents, well-equipped trails and paths, as well as dozens of refuges and bivouacs at high altitude.
The Brenta Dolomites Group is bounded by Val di Sole in the north, Valle di Non in the east, Lake Molveno, the Paganella and the Giudicarie Valleys in the south and Valle Rendena in the west. The whole group is situated in the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park, the widest nature reserve in Trentino, with one of the richest faunal variedness in the Alps, including all mountain species and the brown bear in particular.
The Brenta Dolomites Group is traditionally divided into three areas:
1. the CENTRAL area is the busiest and most popular one, thanks to the easy accesses from Molveno and Madonna di Campiglio. The nicest and most celebrated peaks of the Group lie in this area; they made the history of these mountains and the fame of several climbers, such as Bruno Detassis "The King of Brenta" and founder of one of the best equipped trails in the Dolomites, the so-called "via delle Bocchette".
2. the NORTHERN area, the wildest and less crowded one, is not suitable for amateurs, because the trails to the refuges are usually harder and longer. However, from the naturalistic point of view, this is the most interesting part of the Group, indeed it even houses a small group of brown bears.
3. the SOUTHERN area offers no easy access but its landscapes are often very interesting.
