So many pleasant surprises...
Even if I live in the mountains all the year round, a holiday aimed at relax in a village in the heart of the Dolomites always gladdens me, as the peaceful atmosphere you breath in these places is peerless. Obviously, I visited www.dolomiti.it and searched a Hotel where to spend my mid-August holidays, gain new strength and enjoy my favourite activities, including shopping!!
I am looking for a resort close by Bressanone, the town I really appreciate for its culture, life style, shops and enogastronomy. Thus I rediscover Velturno (850 m.), a mountain village situated in a sunny position between Chiusa and Bressanone, surrounded by the most famous resorts in Valle Isarco, with breathtaking views: in the west you see the Corno del Renon as well as the pyramid-shaped Mt. Sarentini, in the east the famous Dolomites with their pinnacles, the peaks and the well-known “Pale mountains”. Velturno is an ancient village: hotels rich in tradition, many Gothic churches, a Renaissance embattled castle dating back to 1577. ...
This name, “Aktiv&Vitalhotel” Unterwirt, makes me curious. The Hotel even publishes on-line special packages, so I decide to fill in the form to learn about vacancies ... what a surprise... I am lucky... and can go immediately on holiday!
It just takes a few minutes to reach Velturno and its mountains from the motorway exit Chiusa; the Unterwirt lies in the town centre. Mr. Helmut Taubers, whose Hotel is run by the same family since 5 generations, welcomes me smiling. The guests' wellbeing has always been very important for the Taubers. We visit the Hotel, which was newly enlarged... a relaxing atmosphere, elegant halls, refined rooms&suite in chestnut wood and natural stone ... the ambience is well-lit, thanks to the large windows that offer a fantastic view on the valley ... a zen landscape that invites you to pure relax!
Chestnuts are the main constituent of the new “Castanea” Wellness World: you can enjoy the salutary effects of natural products, from flowers to hay, grapes and chestnuts. Moreover, the Hotel boasts a staff of qualified beauticians... and I would like to recommend a massage by Alexandra, much more than a beneficial touch ... choose among the special massages Unterwirt, specific back and foot massages, against imperfections, stone and chestnut massages...
Relax and recover energies, take rest in the spacious rooms, enjoy the fragrance of the materials used, the vivid green of the wide garden with access to the swimming pool, the sun rays piercing through the water in the pool ...
So many pleasant surprises during my last-minute holiday... I appreciate the modern and well-equipped fitness room with cardio-fitness machines as well as the interesting hiking and leisure programme. The Hotel Unterwirt, indeed, is a member of the “Wanderhotel” and “Vitalpinahotel Alto Adige” - as a result, you can join a rich programme, created by experts! In the sauna I had a chat with other guests, who were enthusiastic about the activities organized. Dogs allowed, on condition that they are well-bred!
A further special surprise: you can rent a Mercedes SLK cabrio or a Harley, to move and live the surrounding landscape.
To conclude, I mention the cuisine, that has been an important strong point of Hotel Unterwirt for generations. Supervised to the last detail, the restaurant always makes use of fresh local products, according to seasons. Mr. Franz Tauber was one of the first sommeliers in South Tyrol and every week organizes a wine tasting in the Hotel. The Unterwirt cuisine is mentioned in the ESPRESSO GUIDEBOOK.
You will be surprised at the buffet of desserts, too!!
