Special holidays in South Tyrol 7 alpine pearls in the dolomites – UNESCO world natural heritage

Alpine Pearls stands for quality and environmentally sound holidays. The Alpine Pearls project includes 20 settlements in the Italian, Swiss, Austrian, German, French and Slovenian mountains, which offer their guests an unusual holiday which respects the environment and is characterized by “soft mobility”. A holiday with no car and with no environmental impact, protecting nature, environment and life quality.

There are seven Alpine Pearls in South Tyrol: Nova Ponente, Nova Levante, Tires, Collepietra/Cornedo, Funes, Racines and Moso. In these wonderful places lying in the heart of the Dolomites - UNESCO Natural World Heritage, all destinations can be reached without using the car, there are many ways to spend your free-time in the open air doing trekking, mountain-bike, riding a horse, in more and more areas with no traffic, pollution and noise.

Nova Ponente – Val d’Ega

Nova Ponente lies 1.350 m above the sea level on the “Regglberg” plateau, and is surrounded by the Dolomites, UNESCO Natural World Heritage: to the east by the Sciliar, Catinaccio and Latemar massifs, to the South by Pala di Santa, Corno Bianco and Corno Nero. Unfar from Nova Ponente you can find the villages of Obereggen and Ega, the shrine of Pietralba and Monte S. Pietro, which is famous for its 18 hole golf course.
Due to its wonderful position, Val d’Ega allows to reach many trekking and mountain-bike destinations, as well as to climb and ride a horse in the unpolluted nature.

Nova Levante – Carezza

Nova Levante is the land of the Catinaccio and of Laurin the dwarf ruler, as well as an ideal starting point to reach this imposing dolomite peak glowing red at sunset, either on foot or with the lift facilities. In summer it is a paradise for hikers, mountaineers and bikers who have at their disposal many paths and itineraries for all difficulty levels. In winter the Carezza Ski area and the Latemar-Obereggen Ski Center, as well as 100 km slopes, can be easily reached. Besides the Catinaccio, there are other attractions you shouldn’t miss, such as the romantic Carezza lake and Montalto di Nova, the highest wooded plateau in Europe.

Collepietra

Collepietra lies in a wonderful sunny position in the heart of Dolomites. A real alpine terrace, with a magnificent view over Valle Isarco, Renon, Catinaccio and Sciliar. A small mountain village at 823 above sea level, featuring a mild climate and a nature worth discovering with hikes and mountain bike tours. Among its natural attractions, the earth pyramids are one of the most striking. Furthermore in Collepietra and in the near village of San Valentino di Sopra there are the first and only observatory and astronomical station in South Tyrol. If you prefer a cultural holiday, visit the museum in Collepietra and the castle in Cornedo all’Isarco.

Tires al Catinaccio

Between the biggest high Alpine pasture area in Europe - the Seiser Alm - and the Dolomites Catinaccio massif, you can see the small rural village of Tires, located in an unpolluted nature, among woods and imposing peaks which are ideal for walks and hikes in summer as well as for snowshoeing in winter. Due to its position, Tires is able to grant you a holiday characterized by nature and relax. Racines

Racines is an old settlment lying between 980 and 1620 m above sea level, which recently became a municipality, one of the broadest in South Tyrol. In fact, it includes three valleys: Val Ridanna, Val Racines and Val di Giovo with the Passo Giovo pass, taking to Val Passiria and Merano. In summer it is an ideal destination for trekking lovers, with many well-marked paths, itineraries in the height, huts and refuges. And much more: for example, you can do horse-riding, rafting, mountain-bike tours, play tennis or visit museums, castles and charming waterfalls. In winter, the Racines ski area offers 30 km slopes for downhill run, 100 km cross-country trails, sledge slopes, ski mountaineering itineraries, ski schools and kindergartens, indoor sport facilities such as the swimming pool and the bowling and a broad après ski offer.

Moso and Plan

Spending your holiday in Moso in Passiria and Plan means discovering extraordinarily beautiful places, in wonderful alpine landscapes which will be the background of all your hikes. Interesting itineraries await you in the heart of the Nature Park Texelgruppe, allowing you to discover natural secrets and beauties. Val di Funes

Peace and relax: this is what you can experience in Val di Funes and in its three villages: Tiso, San Pietro and Santa Maddalena. This is one of the most quiet and beautiful dolomite valleys: with a wonderful view over the soft terraces and vineyards of Valle Isarco and the imposing mountains forming the Odle group, the pale mountains whose high peaks are the main attraction and the symbol of the valley.
