A whirlwind of emotions at the Romantik Hotel Turm. Live and relax in old times wellness
At the Romantik Hotel Turm in South Tyrol you will experience all the different nuances of romanticism and comfort. Enjoy the charm of mystery immersed in the medieval atmosphere of this hotel, an ancient XIII century tower that was once a courthouse and a jail.
At the foot of the Sciliar in the Alpe di Siusi, I admit I experienced strong emotions, moreover, the hotel and its surroundings highly stimulated all my five senses. Breathtaking view, traditional fragrances, gourmet cuisine and wines, international charm, elegant atmosphere and a fully equipped and relaxing wellness center: a perfect combination that swept me away from the beginning. The hotel has quite unusual exteriors: what you see are in fact a tower and a church rising side by side. It’s like a return to the past, like entering another temporal dimension, like living in the Middle Ages, amongst knights and damsels.
At the reception, with its arches and soft colors, a friendly staff welcomed me and showed me the car park, conveniently connected to the hotel through an elevator. Walking through the halls on the way to my room I admired a true art display: a series of paintings by famous artists like Picasso, Giorgio de Chirico, Renato Guttuso and many others can be found on every wall of the Romantik Hotel Turm. The owner, Karl Pramstrahler, collected about 2,000 oil paintings, watercolors and lithographs. “There’s no more space on the walls of the hotel” said Karl, thus on June the 1st 2005 the Turmwirts Karl opened, an art gallery where every artist, even the less famous, can display their works once a month.
The pleasant feeling of living a dream didn’t stop once I entered my room: classic, comfortable style, relaxing colors, and in the bathroom, besides the shower, a medieval style bath tub with wonderful view on the starry sky thanks to a window right above the tub: just wonderful!
In a few minutes I was ready to explore the wellness center, where time for me truly stopped. The staff and owner of the Romantik Hotel Turm grasped the true meaning of wellness: harmony between body and soul, and with nature. I enjoyed a wonderful bath in the outdoor heated swimming pool admiring the winter landscape of the Sciliar, then relaxed on one of the beds surrounded by water in the salt grotto, with music in the background. I finally left all the tensions and worries of modern life behind. The Condč Nast Johansens awarded in 2006 the Romantik Hotel Turm as best wellness hotel in Europe, and I can confirm this hotel is something special, offering a professional staff of masseuses and beauticians. I tried an anti-stress massage, a back massage with warm lavender compresses and a Pantai Luar on a water bed by candlelight: a beneficial all over relaxing massage with warm compresses to relax, purify and regenerate the skin.
In the evening I savored a delicious gourmet dinner made with local products. Every dish is prepared with great care and style by the chef, using only natural ingredients, fresh products bought daily from carefully selected producers and sellers. I tried the surprise menu, and every course was matched with a different local or national wine: what amazing flavors! I couldn’t expect any less, since the restaurant was awarded among the 5 best hotel restaurants of Italy and in 2010 was rated 14 points in the Gault Milau guide and 87 points in the Veronelli guide. The most exciting moment of the evening was the cheese tasting offered by the chef: local cheeses with delicious dipping sauces.
The morning after I enjoyed an abundant breakfast with home-made products: it was like visiting a peasant shop, with all those jams made from raspberries, strawberries, apricots, cranberries and plums. The staff told me that many of the accessories of the wellness center, like the herbal pillows and lavender bags, are strictly hand-made products.
Besides art, wellness and gourmet cuisine, the Romantik Hotel Turm offers facilities to practice sports. There is a gym equipped with treadmill with TV and an 18 hole golf course with a wonderful panoramic view only 5 minutes from the hotel.
I found out that the hotel facilities include a XII century wine-producing maso (a traditional farmhouse), Maso Grottner, with 2 exclusive design suites for those who value privacy above all during their holiday. I will try one on my next visit, to spend a relaxing weekend, a break to focus only on myself and my wellbeing, freeing body and mind from the stress of everyday life. I will regenerate and revitalize my spirit thanks to the medieval magic of the “Romantic Turm world”.
