Carnival in Sauris

Sauris | from 17.02.2012 to 19.02.2012

The Carnival of Sauris is one of the most ancient in the Alps. This year it will take place from the 17 to the 19 of February in Sauris, a town of the Carnia region. The celebrations consist in a show of the two main traditional characters, Rölar and Kheirar, who lead two groups of masks: the beautiful ones and the ugly ones. Children will have a lot of fun too, with a whole afternoon dedicated to them.

PROGRAM

February 17, Friday

2 pm Children Carnival: the parade will leave from the primary school of Sauris di Sotto and march across the old town.
Arrival at the tent in front of the Kursaal of Sauris with desserts, music and entertainment

February 18, Saturday

5 pm The main event Lanterns Night begins
5.50 pm The masks will be presented to the crowd and to the jury. Lanterns at disposal for rent for the parade in the square of Sauris di Sopra
6.30 pm The Rölar and the Kheirar summon the other masks to leave for the Lantern Parade in the woods, with a stop to sip some mulled wine around the bonfire
8 pm The crowd gathers in the tent of Sauris di Sotto, where participants can enjoy local products, music and dances. Prizes for the best masks will be awarded

A free shuttle service will be active between Lateis, Sauris di Sotto and Sauris di Sopra
