The journey starts in Montebelluna, a modern town with ancient origins, as the recent finds of Paleovenetian necropolis north of the town demonstrate. An interesting visit is to the "Piazzetta del Mercato Vecchio" where there is the Column of the Ducali of 1593 and to the Natural Science Museum.
From Montebelluna get to Feltre a little but nice town on a hill at the western boundaries of the Val Belluna. Axis of the old town centre is Via Mezzaterra, that you can reach passing under Porta Imperiale, the gate built in 1400. Along the street you will meet many noble buldings, among which the most important is Salce-Aldovini-Mezzanotte in front of the church of San Giacomo Maggiore. Moreover it is worth a visit to Piazza Maggiore with the Pretorio Palace, The Ragione Palace and the overhanging church of San Rocco.
Next stage is in Fiera di Primiero, where you can visit the gothic parish church of the Assunta, dated XV century and the Palace of the Mines, built in the XV century.
Along the road that leads to Passo Rolle you will meet San Martino di Castrozza, in the east of Trentino, at the foot of the well-known Pale di San Martino, near the boundary with the Veneto region. Set in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Dolomites, this town represents an excellent destination for skiers and excursionists. Climbing from the south of the Alpe Tognola (2163 m) or from east to Cima della Rosetta (2609 m) you can admire the Group of the Pale.
As you get to Passo Rolle (1970 m), turn towards Moena, the village also
known as the "Fay of the Dolomites" for the red colour that at dawn and
sunset covers the surrounding mountains. The Church of San Vigilio,
built in the XII century, and the near frescoed church of San Volfango
testimony the Ladin origin of this village, and the tradition of the
wooden containers lives on in the Pinter Workshop, i.e. the cooper’s
workshop.
From Moena get to Canazei, another important skiing resort
in the Trentino Dolomites, at the foot of the Sella Group and the
Marmolada.
From here you get to the 2239 m of Passo Pordoi,
along the boundary line between Trentino and Veneto, from where you
descend again towards Arabba, well-known town for the skiing resort
close to the Sella Group.
From Arabba continue to Passo Fedaia
via Livinallongo and Rocca Pietore.
Livinallongo del Col di Lana
lies in the Ladin territory of Fodòm, Italian only since 1919. We
suggest a visit to the Museum of Ladin People to discover the history of
this village and its traditions. In Rocca Pietore you can visit
the late-gothic parish church wit a "flüdealtar" of a German School,
dated back to 1500.
Now you can make a further stop in Sottoguda
before continuing to Passo Fedaia. Here in fact you find the deep gorge
of the Serrai di Sottoguda, where a stream flows for 2 km
between high rocky walls. At the end of the Serrai you will meet the
chapel that gives the name to Malga Ciapela (indeed in dialect "Ciapela"
means chapel). From here the cableway brings you uo to the Marmolada,
where you can enjoy a wonderful view on the Dolomites surrounding the
larges glacier of the region.
Back on the road, reach Passo Fedaia
(2057 m), and then ride towards Canazei again. Along the road to Passo
Fedaia in Penia (1556 m) you will meet the "Sia", the last water
sawmill of the valley. From the pass you can observe the Marmolada (3343
m) so close that it seems you can touch it.
