Sebastiano Ricci tra le sue Dolomiti

From 30th April to 29th August, the Province of Belluno celebrates Sebastiano Ricci, one of its most famous painters, with the exhibition “Sebastiano Ricci tra le sue Dolomiti” (Sebastiano Ricci among his Dolomites). This event aims to commemorate the important artist on his 350th birthday introducing some of his works which are preserved in St. Peters’ church, in the Town Museum and in Palazzo Crepadona in Belluno as well as in the Sacred Art Museum Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra in Feltre.
A cultural itinerary aimed to be a tribute to the artist and to his birthplace, which coincides with the exhibition in Venice called “Sebastiano Ricci. Il trionfo dell’invenzione nel Settecento veneziano”, opened from 24th April to 11th July.
Sebastiano Ricci was born in Belluno in 1659, and he left many important works in the province. From 30th April to 29th August it will be possible to visit some of the buildings where the artist’s works are preserved. In the old town of Belluno, St. Peter’s Church will be opened all days, so that the visitors can admire Cappella Fulcis, with two of Ricci’s works, as well as the altarpiece.
In the Town Museum the big painting Caduta di Fetonte (The fall of Phaeton) is exhibited, together with a video reconstructing virtually Pietro Fulcis’ room where the painting was hung on the ceiling. Two other paintings of Palazzo Fulcis cycle are exhibited in Palazzo Crepadona, with other works owned by the city.
In the Sacred Art Museum Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra in Feltre the pictures painted by Sebastiano Ricci for the charterhouse in Vedana in the years 1704-1706 can be admired, as well as the four oval paintings (two of them painted by Ricci) which were found in the Chapel of villa Fabris-Guarnieri in Tomo (unfar from Feltre) and which were created between 1719 and 1722.
