Alano di Piave

Alano di Piave is placed in the Province of Belluno and borders the area of Treviso. Its position, halfway between plain and mountains, at the foot of the historical Mount Grappa, grants a large variety of landscapes, with extraordinary fluvial, hill and mountain environments.

Alano di Piave is rich in historical and landscape attractions and is an ideal destination for relaxing holidays, discovering nature and history. Despite its ancient origin (testified by Roman findings on its territory), Alano di Piave is mainly remembered for the events related to the First World War, which earned him a silver medal for civil merit. The World War I had devastating effects on the city, its inhabitants had to evacuate it and rebuild it almost completely. These terrible historical events are described in the city’s Local History Museum, which includes also other interesting statements on local history.

Also Mount Grappa, which towers above Alano di Piave, has been the scene of bloody battles during the First World War. There are several paths that climb this mountain, that cross spectacular viewpoints and pass through typical alpine summer houses that offer excellent dairy products passed on by tradition.

Alano and its surroundings offer also less demanding walking tours, at a low altitude, perfect for those who love to discover chapels and churches or rare natural beauties, such as the track of Ponte della Stua.
